Inuvik Community Greenhouse is a non‑profit facility located at Loucheux Road and Breynat Street (behind the Igloo Church) in Inuvik, NT. Repurposed from an old hockey arena, it is recognized as the most northern commercial and community greenhouse in North America. The greenhouse provides over 16,000 sq ft of growing space with more than 170 garden plots and a commercial section.
Operated by the Community Garden Society of Inuvik, the greenhouse supports food security, local horticulture, and community connection. Residents, elders, youth groups, and caregivers tend garden plots to grow fresh produce and flowers year-round under extended daylight conditions. The team also runs workshops, educational events, markets, and summer tours. A café opening in recent years offers meals made from locally grown ingredients.
The greenhouse extends the growing season deep into the Arctic through daylight amplification and indoor horticulture. It's a hub for healthy food, cultural learning, art, and local connection. Visitors and gardeners alike appreciate its community focus and its role in northern resilience.
The Inuvik Community Greenhouse promotes wellness, food access, and environmental learning in an inspiring Arctic setting.
